Campus Confidential

This year I have the honor of consulting Greek students and undergraduate InterVarsity staff at five other campuses in North Carolina and Virginia. Each campus is at a different stage of ministry growth and development. Click on the school below for an update on what is going on at each campus. And please be in prayer for the Greek students at these schools who are trying to start ministry within their fraternity, sorority, or Greek system at large with very little 'adult supervision'!

Roanoke College

Roanoke is a small college of roughly 2,000 students in Salem, Virginia (outside of Roanoke). The InterVarsity chapter is probably the best student activity in town, and there is a lot of student overlap in social circles - so resourcing the Greek system through the IV chapter makes sense. The staff worker, Scott Yeager, has a huge heart for Greek ministry, but was not Greek in college and sometimes his heart for students and for the success of Greek ministry gets 'lost in translation.' (mostly on the student's side, not his).

There are a number of fraternity and sorority students already

heavily involved and commited to the leadership of the undergraduate chapter. Many of these folks, though, are so IV-focused that they are not as Greek-focused as is needed for longterm success in house ministry. There are a number of students who are of the 'greek-first' mentality who would be great leaders of a specific ministry to the Greek system, but they have been flaky in their ownership of ministry on campus this year. As a whole, though, this is a fertile soil for Greek ministry.

Pray for: 'Christian,' a male leader who could dynamically lead the ministry if he wanted to, but has checked out of ministry life so far this semester; a greater vision for house ministry among the Greeks already involved in the InterVarsity chapter; that the new Pi Kappa Phi chapter would continue to be a place of ministry.
